The Potbank Cafe on the former Spode factory site, where bone China was invented, also the hub of the British Ceramics Biennial, opened on the same day as the Biennial, 22 September 2017.

Serving tea with TEAPY®s with glass mugs, operators Mosaic Hospitality asked each tea customer on this first day if they would prefer a teapot but all chose the TEAPY® method, according to owner Kirsten Inverarity, “Some people were surprised when we opted for TEAPY® next door to the Spode museum, but we are a commercial organisation and knew from our experience elsewhere that TEAPY® is better for us as well as our customers.”

The Chairman of Arts Council England, Sir Nicholas Serota, was observed using TEAPY® as a lid to keep his drink warm while honing his Biennial opening speech, in which he said how much he had enjoyed his experience in the Potbank Cafe.
